The birth happened around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2025. A 25-year-old woman went into labor around 11:30 a.m. on a southbound W train. With no access to immediate medical care, she was forced to deliver her baby right there on the train—an incredibly challenging situation that required quick thinking and support from those around her. Subway teamwork saves the day
As the train pulled into the 34th Street-Herald Square station, multiple passengers alerted the conductor that a woman had just given birth, setting off a coordinated response to ensure she and her baby received immediate care.
NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow described the moment as one of incredible teamwork, praising both the transit staff and the good Samaritans who stepped in to assist. “This is another example of New Yorkers coming together to help each other,” he told CBS.
One of the passengers, Bryanna Brown, shared her shock at witnessing the birth, immediately texting her boss about the situation. “I did not believe that I actually witnessed it,” she told CBS.
