Six years after opening in New York City’s Soho, Chanel’s Atelier Beauté Chanel has permanently closed.

Opened in January 2019, the location had been a unique format for the brand, offering beauty sampling as well as makeup services and consultations for skincare and fragrance.

Influencers and beauty shoppers have taken to social media to lament the Atelier’s shutdown, which reportedly happened earlier this year. A TikTok post by influencer Gurleen Kaur in January 2025 warned viewers that the exact closing date would be Jan. 18, 2025, encouraging people to experience the location before it shut down.

A Chanel representative did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation. The brand is planning to “integrate the innovation practice” into existing fragrance and beauty boutiques, according to a statement reported by Women’s Wear Daily.

A beauty boutique in Williamsburg, Brooklyn remains open, according to a store locator, as well as its Maison de Beauté in Paris. The latter is listed as the Boutique Chanel Parfums et Beauté Passy, using the same name as Chanel’s standard beauty boutiques.
